Scouting Report
Aquinas-My alma mater, the St. Thomas Aquinas Knights travel to the CAP CITY this Friday, after notching their first win of the season at Smithville last week 28-14. The knights will look to pound the ball with their running back by committee backfield of seniors. The knights who have attempted only 38 passes this season and completing a mere 10 of them, look to be a one dimensional attack who took a beating in last year’s meeting 33-14. The Knights do have History on their side, the last time these two schools played in the CAP CITY it was for the 1984 State Championship, the Knights were victorious 21-0. Being used as a Homecoming game in a sort because the Hawks will be celebrating 50 years of Hartley Football, and dedicating their stadium to legendary coach Jack Ryan, Aquinas has the opportunity to play spoiler to the Hartley party; but it’s not looking good. They will need another special teams performance from Senior Nick Hart, who returned a Kickoff 90 yards for a Touchdown last week, and some creative play-calling from Head Coach Bob Maddon to crash the party.
Hartley-After a 3-0 start the Hawks seem to be rolling, and look to continue their roll against a struggling Aquinas program. The Hawks high scoring offense is led by Junior running back Noah Key, who is one of the better backs in the Central Ohio area. Key has 330 yards in three games and is averaging 7.5 yards a carry, for a Hartley squad who has crept to No. 13 in the AP Div. IV polls. Senior Geoffery Whitside also adds to the offensive attack averaging 18 yards a catch, making for big play possibilities down field. A senior led offensive line maybe the Hawks strongest assest, big, strong and experience up front may spell trouble for the Knights.
Prediction
38-13 Hawks…I think they will be a little too athletic for the Knights, and they scheduled them for this week for a reason so we will see.
